Viveiro Golf Club is an 18-hole desert course in Sal with immaculate greens, artificial fairways and constant wind. Calm, technical and well kept. Not cheap, but surprisingly satisfying for anyone who actually came to play proper golf.

Port of Palmeira is Sal’s main harbour: small, lively and very real. Colourful boats, fresh fish and constant local life. Not a tourist attraction, but a key place to understand how the island actually functions from the inside.

Ponta do Sinó Lighthouse is a small historic lighthouse at the southern tip of Sal. You can’t go inside and there’s little to “do”. It works as a coastal walk endpoint, with wind, rough sea and good sunset photos.

Farol da Ponta de Fiura, on Sal’s northern tip, is a remote lighthouse on ancient lava, with dramatic views, constant wind and an end-of-the-world atmosphere. Hard access, zero services, a perfect experience for patient explorers.

The Church of the Nazarene offers a vibrant service with gospel music, English interpretation and a welcoming atmosphere. Small space, plenty of heat and strong community energy. Perfect for those wanting to experience local life beyond Santa Maria’s usual tourist scene.

In Espargos, the Church of Santo António is more than a temple: a meeting point, a cool refuge, and a mirror of local life. Masses, talks, and celebrations keep it alive — simple, warm, and unmistakably Cape Verdean.

Central hill district of Espargos with public offices, daily shops and true local life. Useful for errands, quick coffee and orientation in Sal’s capital. Pair it with Monte Curral or Pedra de Lume. Not a postcard — the real thing.
