Angulo Beach: where the plan works… as long as you’re not in a hurry

Angulo Beach is a seafront chiringuito where atmosphere leads: surf nearby, occasional live music and dishes that can genuinely impress. Best for breakfasts, sunset drinks or unhurried dinners. Come with time, relax into the rhythm, and it usually delivers.

When the beach sets the pace and the kitchen tries to follow

Angulo Beach is one of those places you arrive at for the sea and stay for the feeling that time runs on a different clock here. Surfboards leaning against wood, bare feet in the sand, live music on some nights and tables facing the Atlantic. Everything invites you to slow down… except hunger with a schedule.

WHAT ANGULO BEACH REALLY IS

Angulo is a beach bar, restaurant and social hub at the eastern end of Santa Maria, slightly removed from the busiest tourist stretch. Surfers, locals, repeat visitors and curious walkers all mix here, often arriving straight along the shoreline.

During the day it works beautifully as a beach bar: breakfasts, drinks, snacks and loungers. In the evening it shifts up a gear with more elaborate dinners and, on certain nights, live music. The idea is appealing. The execution, most of the time… but not always.

Where the town starts to loosen up

Right on the beach, beyond the most crowded part of Santa Maria. That’s part of the charm: less artificial noise, more real ocean. You can reach it on foot from the centre in a slightly longer walk, or simply stroll along the sand.

A surf school and rental shop sit right next door, which explains the laid-back, sporty feel.

Very good… when it arrives

This is Angulo Beach’s main contradiction.

On one hand, there are highly praised dishes: tuna poke bowls, classic tataki, handmade burgers (including tuna), generous breakfasts and well-prepared snacks. Some visitors even call it the best food they’ve had in Santa Maria.

On the other hand, there are stories of very long waits (60–80 minutes) and the occasional serious misfire, with dishes that simply don’t match what was ordered. Not the norm, but they do happen.

At Angulo, the food can be excellent… but you have to leave your watch behind.

Friendly, warm and sometimes overwhelmed

Staff usually earn clear praise: approachable, friendly and willing. Susana, who runs the place, appears repeatedly in reviews as the person keeping things together. When the venue is full, however, service slows down and the experience depends heavily on timing.

It’s not indifference — more island rhythm pushed to its limits.

A clear win

This is Angulo’s strongest card. Wooden terrace, open sea views, live music on some evenings, relaxed crowds and conversations that naturally stretch on. It’s easy to stay longer than planned, even if you only came for one drink.

Beach loungers are available and their cost is deducted from your food and drink bill, a practical detail many appreciate.

PRACTICAL TIPS · How to enjoy it properly

– Come without rushing, especially at lunch or dinner time.
– If you’re very hungry, order something simple or ask for real waiting times.
– Perfect for long breakfasts, sunset drinks and music-filled evenings.
– Ideal if you want a local feel and less mass tourism.

BEST TIME TO GO

It shines in the morning and at sunset. At midday and in the evening it can get busy, which is when waits appear. Live music adds a lot — as long as you’re not in a hurry to eat.

A place for letting go

Angulo Beach is not a restaurant for tight schedules. It’s a place to sit, watch the sea and accept that things arrive when they arrive. If you play along, it often pays off. If not, it can be frustrating.

Here, the plan isn’t to eat fast. The plan is to stay.
