When things go well — which, according to many reviews, is most of the time — guests highlight the cleanliness, functional rooms, comfortable beds and an overall sense of calm. The shared kitchen is well organised, there’s an option for low-cost laundry (much appreciated by long-term travellers), and it’s handy to be able to store luggage after check-out or park motorbikes securely inside the property.
Breakfast deserves a special mention: simple, but prepared with care. Alba’s omelettes appear in more than one review, and not out of politeness.
That said, not everything is idyllic. Some very critical reviews mention hot rooms, noisy fans, worn bedding, lack of toiletries and, above all, nearby construction with guard dogs that can turn the night into an exercise in patience. There are also serious complaints related to reservations made outside Booking that were not found on arrival — something worth taking very seriously.

This isn’t a place to “do things inside”. It’s a solid base camp.

– Come back in the afternoon knowing the area is quiet.
– Prepare something simple in the shared kitchen or eat nearby without needing a taxi.
Many travellers use it as their first accommodation in Sal, precisely because the staff give good advice on what to see, what to avoid and how to move around depending on your travel style: beaches, water sports or excursions.
What to know before booking
Book smart. If you’re not using Booking.com, make sure you have clear confirmations. There have been real issues with reservations made through other platforms.
Ask about the room. Some are cooler and quieter than others. If you’re sensitive to heat or noise, say so from the start.
Don’t judge by the exterior. Several reviews agree: it may look average from the outside, but it’s much better inside.
Watch out for nearby construction. It’s not always active, but when it is, the guard dogs make themselves heard.
Value the human touch. If that matters to you, this place scores highly.

In cooler months, Blue Eagle Guesthouse is much more enjoyable: nights are easier and you rely less on the fan. In peak summer, the heat can be an issue if you get a less ventilated room.
